This season at Akron RubberDucks games, food is taking center stage. Get ready for some mouthwatering options.
Imagine biting into a smoky brisket sandwich layered with pork belly. Or how about a patty melt with double beef patties melted together with Gruyere cheese? There are even fully dressed nachos served right in a baseball helmet!
These delicious new treats will be available starting Thursday at the RubberDucks’ season opener against the Reading Fightin Phils at the newly named 717 Credit Union Park. The team is celebrating 15 years of offering unique, extreme foods to fans.
“Food is part of who we are here in Northeast Ohio,” said Jim Pfander, the team’s president and general manager. “It’s woven into the fabric of our community.”
For those who enjoy tradition, don’t worry—a classic hot dog is still available for just $2.50.
This season also brings new twists to the team’s identity. For a couple of months during the year, the RubberDucks will play as the Akron Cream Stick Donuts and Akron Chip Dippers. These names celebrate local foods, like the cream-filled donuts and the famous French onion dip from Lawson’s Milk Co., once a beloved convenience store chain in the area.
The concept of extreme foods isn’t new for the RubberDucks; it began in 2011. One standout from last year was the “Base on (Meat)Balls,” a hollowed-out bread stuffed with marinara and meatballs. It’s back, but this time it’s known as The Italian Sausage Dugout, alongside two other offerings—the Philly Cheesesteak Dugout and The Bratwurst Dugout, each served with a collectible 32-ounce souvenir cup.
This year, the team is also giving back. $1 from select food item sales will benefit local nonprofits enhancing the community spirit.
Let’s take a look at some new offerings that are sure to excite your taste buds:
- WONE Smokestack: A hearty sandwich packed with smoked brisket, pork belly, pepperjack cheese, and crunchy chips topped with honey mustard sauce.
- Emmet Golden’s Loaded Nachos: Tortilla chips loaded with seasoned beef, nacho cheese, jalapeños, sour cream, and more, served in a souvenir helmet.
- Patty Melt: Fluffy sourdough bread filled with two patties, mushroom duxelles, and Gruyere cheese.
- Loaded Pierogies: Premium dumplings topped with sauerkraut, kielbasa, and chipotle honey mustard.
- Pineapple TeriyAkron Bowl: A fresh pineapple filled with rice, grilled chicken, and diced pineapple, drizzled with teriyaki glaze.
The excitement doesn’t just stop at the food. In a recent survey, 75% of sports fans said they look forward to unique food experiences at games. The RubberDucks are tapping into that excitement, combining sports with culinary creativity.
If you love baseball and food, heading to a RubberDucks game this season is a must. With a focus on community, tradition, and innovation, there’s no better way to enjoy a day at the ballpark.
