India’s railway industry has just taken a big step forward. The Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala has produced its first Vande Bharat Express train. This is a huge milestone for the factory and for India’s ambition to enhance its train manufacturing.
The new train set, consisting of 16 modern coaches, is nearing its final stages. It’s expected to hit the tracks soon, possibly by the end of the month. Before this, Vande Bharat trains were mainly made at the Integral Coach Factory. Expanding production to Kapurthala will help ramp up the number of high-speed trains across the country.
This latest version of the Vande Bharat train comes with improved technology aimed at enhancing passenger comfort, safety, and efficiency. Experts in transportation emphasize that such advancements are crucial for meeting modern travel demands. According to the Ministry of Railways, the addition of the Kapurthala facility could help increase production by up to 40%, enabling faster deployment of trains to meet growing travel needs.
During a recent media tour, the factory showcased how they produce these trains, from raw materials to completed coaches. This highlights not only the scale of production in India but also the move towards self-reliance in the railway sector.
However, not everything has been smooth. Recent incidents involving food quality on Vande Bharat trains have raised concerns. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation was fined ₹10 lakh for poor service. This has led to calls for stricter quality controls to improve the overall experience for passengers.
As India ramps up its premium train network, the introduction of the Kapurthala-produced Vande Bharat train signals a significant leap towards modernizing its railways. It reflects a commitment to enhancing infrastructure and fostering local manufacturing. With the growing demand for efficient rail travel, this development is not only timely but essential for the future of transportation in India.
