A live poetry event, “A Reason to Listen,” is happening Thursday at 7 p.m. at Septentrio’s Wine Bar in Arcata. Join others around the campfires for an open mic session from 7 to 9 p.m.
This Friday, the Humboldt Folk Dancers host an International Folk Dance Party from 8 to 10:30 p.m. at the Redwood Raks World Dance Studio on L Street. It’s $5 to $10 to attend, and no one will be turned away for lack of funds. People of all ages and skill levels are welcome, and you don’t need a partner to join in the fun.
This Saturday, the Redwood Region Audubon Society is offering a free guided trip at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Bring your binoculars and meet trip leader Gary Friedrichsen at Klopp Lake. You can expect beautiful views of Humboldt Bay and a variety of local birds.
If you can’t make it in the morning, the Friends of the Arcata Marsh are hosting another free tour on Saturday. Meet Ken Burton at 2 p.m. in the lobby of the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center. This 90-minute walk will give you a chance to learn about the marsh, rain or shine.
On Sunday, head to the Freshwater Grange for a hearty breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Choices include pancakes, ham, sausage, and more, all for just $10 for adults and $7 for kids.
Looking for something lively? Enjoy a dance with live music at the Moose Lodge this Monday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is $9, and it promises to be a good time for all.
Bingo fans can join the fun every Tuesday at the Moose Lodge. Doors open at 5 p.m. with games starting at 6 p.m. The snack bar will be open, and all proceeds support community initiatives.
Mark your calendars for April 8, when the Trinidad Civic Club hosts a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. The Northern California Community Blood Bank bloodmobile will be at Murphy’s Market, and donors can enjoy homemade cookies and a pizza voucher. Don’t miss the inaugural community golf tournament on June 12, organized by the Humboldt County Search and Rescue Team.
