Olam Food Ingredients (ofi), a major player in the food and beverage sector, just opened its new East Coast Distribution Center in East Greenwich Township, New Jersey. This impressive 574,000-square-foot facility will significantly enhance the company’s operations.
New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill expressed her excitement, stating, “ofi’s choice of New Jersey shows great investment in our hardworking people and economy.” Her office aims to position New Jersey as an ideal location for businesses.
Evan Weiss, CEO of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA), also welcomed the new center, noting it will create jobs and boost local economic growth. He remarked that this decision reflects the state’s competitive edge and talent pool.
Strategically located, the East Greenwich site is under 20 miles from the Philadelphia port and less than 100 miles from New Jersey’s main ports in Newark and Elizabeth. M. Sathyamurthy, CEO of ofi Americas, highlighted that the decision to set up in this area was influenced by the strong workforce and accessibility to distribution channels. This plant aims to support not only their retail business but also enhance their global sourcing strategy.
Lim Seow Hui from Enterprise Singapore noted the importance of international collaboration in strengthening supply chains. He emphasized that ofi’s new facility is a step towards improving access to essential food ingredients.
In recent years, New Jersey has become increasingly appealing to global companies, with a notable rise in foreign investments. According to a recent report by the NJEDA, foreign direct investment in New Jersey has increased by over 30% in the past five years. This trend suggests a growing confidence in the state’s business environment.
As businesses like ofi make significant moves, the local community and economy continue to benefit. The new distribution center is not just a facility; it represents opportunity and growth for South Jersey.
