The Renewed Hope Climate Change Awareness Tour kicked off in Kano, Nigeria, marking a significant step towards promoting clean energy and sustainability. This campaign, organized by BURN Manufacturing, aims to bring together government officials, climate experts, and development partners to discuss real solutions for climate challenges while creating economic opportunities.
Umar Sale Anka, representing the Governor of Kano State, highlighted that the tour underscores their dedication to job creation and environmental care. “We’re committed to making a difference,” he said.
Olamide Fagbuji, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Technology, emphasized the importance of putting policies into action. She stated that the tour focuses on practical solutions, showcasing how BURN’s efforts in Kano illustrate the potential of climate technology to support Nigeria’s energy needs.
Participants visited BURN’s clean cookstove plant, one of Africa’s largest, which produces 35,000 stoves each month. This facility not only meets local cooking needs but also aims to scale production to 100,000 stoves. The use of carbon finance helps keep costs down, making clean cooking both affordable and beneficial for the environment.
Tenioye Majekodunmi, Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change, pointed out that Nigeria is working on creating a transparent carbon market that aligns with its climate goals. “Projects like BURN’s are examples of how reducing emissions can also improve lives and help protect our forests,” he said.
Since entering Nigeria in 2023, BURN has distributed over one million stoves and created jobs for more than 700 people at its Kano facility. This site is becoming a key player in clean energy manufacturing for the ECOWAS region. Nigeria’s recent authorization to export 5.2 million carbon credits to the UN’s CORSIA aviation scheme is expected to bring in revenue that can fund more climate initiatives.
