Salah Sarsour, the president of Wisconsin’s largest mosque, was recently detained by federal immigration agents. Many local officials and community leaders believe his arrest is linked to his outspoken criticism of Israel.
Sarsour, a 53-year-old Palestinian-born man, was taken into custody in Milwaukee after ICE agents surrounded his car as he left his home. Supporters are demanding his immediate release, while his lawyers argue that the government claims he poses a foreign policy threat without any valid evidence.
His attorney, Munjed Ahmad, suggests that Sarsour was targeted not just for his vocal stance against Israel but also because of a conviction he received as a minor in Israeli military courts.
