Hulu has decided not to move forward with the comedy pilot “Group Chat,” based on La La Anthony’s book “The Love Playbook: Rules for Love, Sex, and Happiness.” The project was produced by Kenya Barris and featured Kim Kardashian as an executive producer. Initially announced in 2024, it was part of Kardashian’s deal with 20th Television.
La La Anthony starred in the pilot and served as an executive producer. The cast also included Yaya DaCosta, Melanie Liburd, Rebecca Rittenhouse, and Stephanie Suganami.
Even though “Group Chat” won’t be happening, Anthony and Kardashian are collaborating on a new project. They’re both executive producers on an untitled comedy series by Tracy Oliver, also being developed at Hulu. The story revolves around a crisis manager for athletes whose life gets disrupted by her husband’s scandal. It explores themes of friendship, motherhood, and starting over.
Tracy Oliver is well-known for her work on “Girls Trip,” which earned over $140 million worldwide. She has also written projects like “The Blackening” and “Harlem,” showing her knack for engaging storytelling.
Despite the setback with “Group Chat,” both Anthony and Kardashian continue to stay active in the entertainment world. It’s interesting to note that collaborative projects like these highlight the shift in the industry towards female-led narratives, often reflecting modern social issues.
