Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli is buzzing with excitement as the Modern Coach Factory (MCF) has rolled out its first Vande Bharat Express train. This marks a significant step, as now three Indian Railways production sites are involved in making these advanced semi-high-speed trains. The other two factories are the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai and the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala.
This train represents a new generation of rail travel. Initially designed in Chennai, the increasing demand prompted the Indian Railways Ministry to expand production beyond just one factory.
A senior official from MCF shared that this newly constructed Vande Bharat train comes with several enhancements. The trial runs are expected to kick-off soon, which is a thrilling prospect for rail enthusiasts.
Features of the New Vande Bharat Train:
- Coaches: 16
- Acceleration: Starts at 0.7 m/sec² and reaches 160 km/h in about 140 seconds
- Maximum Speed: 160 km/h (testing up to 180 km/h)
- Axle load capacity: 17 tons
- Powered Axles: Every alternate coach has powered axles
- Fully Sprung Traction Motors: Ensures smooth rides
Since 2018, a total of 97 Vande Bharat chair car trains have rolled off the production line in Chennai alone. The express trains currently operate with various configurations—including 8, 16, and 20 coaches.
A glimpse into train travel’s future reveals not just speedy journeys but also higher efficiency, which is becoming increasingly essential. A recent survey showed that 55% of travelers prefer trains for short- to medium-distance travel due to their comfort and reliability.
