Why the Bengals Should Consider Trading Trey Hendrickson to an NFC Contender

The Cincinnati Bengals face a tricky situation with Trey Hendrickson this offseason. Reports have shown that last year he wanted out due to contract issues. Now, he is one of the team’s top players needing a new deal, alongside Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.

Recently, a suggestion from Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport proposed trading Hendrickson to the Detroit Lions. The idea is to swap him for a second-round pick in 2025 and a third-round pick in 2026. Davenport believes that Hendrickson and Aidan Hutchinson could be a powerful edge-rushing duo for Detroit.

“The Lions have room in their budget to extend Hendrickson if they trade for him. And for the Bengals, if they see that Hendrickson won’t be signed long-term, they should get what they can now,” Davenport explained.

Hendrickson had an impressive season last year, leading the NFL with 17.5 sacks. However, at 30 years old, he may want a big contract. The Bengals are aiming to win now, and letting go of a player like Hendrickson could set them back, especially considering how struggling their defense has been.
