Former NFL head coach Dave McGinnis passed away on Monday at the age of 74. The Titans announced his death and shared heartfelt tributes from those who knew him.
Amy Adams Strunk, the Titans’ controlling owner, expressed deep sorrow, saying, “Coach Mac was more than just a coach; he was family. His passion for the Titans and care for everyone around him left a lasting impact.” His kindness and authenticity touched many lives within the organization.
McGinnis started his NFL career as the linebackers coach for the Chicago Bears from 1986 to 1995. He then became the Arizona Cardinals’ defensive coordinator and later their head coach, where he led the team from 2000 to 2003, finishing with a record of 17-40. Michael Bidwill, the Cardinals’ owner, remembered McGinnis as a “ball coach” who filled the role with passion and enthusiasm. He added that McGinnis truly loved the game and had a unique ability to connect with his players.
After his time with the Cardinals, McGinnis joined the Titans as their linebackers coach from 2004 to 2011. He also worked with Jeff Fisher at the Rams as the assistant head coach from 2012 to 2016. Most recently, he lent his voice to the Titans Radio Network, sharing insights and analysis for fans.
