MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Men’s Tennis team has once again clinched a spot in the Big Sky Tournament, a repeat from last year, following a win over Weber State.
Match Highlights:
In their match against Portland State, Idaho faced challenges with an altered lineup due to injuries. Two players, Chetanna Amadike and Gabriel Moroder, played doubles together, a pairing not seen in a while. They managed to win, but singles play didn’t go as smoothly, resulting in a 1-6 loss overall.
The next day brought another match against Portland, where Idaho struggled early. However, Mikolaj Lis stood out, winning his singles match 6-4, 7-5, showcasing his ability to focus under pressure. Despite highlights from Lis and Noe De Col, who won in a thrilling tiebreak, Idaho ultimately lost 2-5.
Returning to play Utah, the team embraced a fresh look with new haircuts, bringing renewed energy. They dominated doubles, winning convincingly. Amadike once again proved his worth, winning a tough match and confirming his status as a top player in the Big Sky Conference. Unfortunately, they still fell short 3-4.
Finally, in a crucial match against Weber State, Idaho showcased determination, winning the doubles point and translating that momentum into singles victories. They triumphed with a strong 6-1 win, setting the stage for an exciting Big Sky Conference tournament.
This series of matches emphasizes the team’s resilience. Injuries challenged their depth, yet Idaho adapted well and found ways to compete strongly. Looking ahead, the Vandals will play Northern Arizona for their final regular season match on April 19 in Flagstaff, AZ.
