Ninety students from Singapore joined 600 peers from India and Indonesia in an exciting nine-month program focused on climate innovation powered by AI. This initiative, called the Youth Development for Climate Tech (YDCT), culminated in a Global Summit held in Singapore from March 27 to 29, 2026.
The summit, organized by SL2 Impact with support from Meta Platforms, Inc. and the SG Eco Fund, brought together young innovators to showcase their solutions for pressing environmental challenges. Ms. Goh Hanyan, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and the Environment, emphasized the importance of youth-led initiatives in addressing climate issues.
Students participated in hands-on projects that addressed real-world problems like air pollution, urban heat, floods, and renewable energy. They learned how to harness AI, data analytics, and IoT to analyze environmental data and create predictive tools. For example, some teams developed a web application named CoolRide. This tool helps cyclists find shadier routes and offers cooling recommendations based on heat indicators.
This program aligns well with Singapore’s national AI strategy by preparing a new generation of tech-savvy individuals eager to tackle environmental challenges. The emphasis on responsible AI practices ensured that the innovations were not only effective but also ethical.
According to recent surveys, over 75% of participants felt that cross-border collaboration enhanced their learning experience. Anirudh Mohan from IIM Indore shared, “YDCT made me realize that I can blend tech and climate solutions effectively.”
This initiative also resonates with Singapore’s recent focus on climate adaptation. During a debate in March, Minister Grace Fu announced that 2026 would be the “Year of Climate Adaptation.” The work done through the YDCT greatly contributes to this vision.
Overall, the program serves as a testament to how young people can drive meaningful change. As Ms. Goh stated, such initiatives can inspire communities and leverage technology to provide impactful environmental solutions.
