CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine (WGME) — As summer approaches, visitors to Crescent Beach State Park are worried about limited food and drink options. One viewer reached out to CBS13, asking why a popular food truck can’t return and what food choices are available.
According to the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, food trucks are not allowed at Crescent Beach this season unless they are booked for private events. These trucks require a special license agreement to operate in state parks.
In recent years, the state tried food trucks at Crescent after the park’s snack bar had to close due to expensive electrical issues. However, keeping food trucks consistently on-site proved challenging. Many vendors opted for busier spots like agricultural fairs or the Eastern Prom in Portland, making it hard to offer reliable food options inside the park.
A previous food truck owner noted that while demand was high, parking and setup at the beach could be tough for vendors. As a result, visitors will find limited options at Crescent Beach. Outside of two water fountains, you’ll need to bring your own snacks and drinks.
This situation reflects a broader trend across Maine state parks, where food trucks are generally not permitted. If you’re planning a visit to Crescent Beach, it’s a good idea to pack your own picnic.
