The UW-Oshkosh women’s golf team recently played in the Mustang Spring Invitational, held at Brown Deer Golf Club in Iowa on April 13-14. Competing against nine teams, the Titans secured seventh place with a total of 715 strokes. St. Catherine University took the top spot with 634 strokes.

Rylie Severson led the Titans with a solid sixth-place finish. The Green Bay native scored 162 strokes over the two days. Her round included two birdies, with scores of 79 on Monday and 83 on Tuesday.

Addy Horne and Taryn Endres both finished tied for 30th, each recording 181 strokes. Horne had a challenging day one, shooting 22-over par but bounced back with a birdie on day two, finishing 15-over. Endres had a more consistent performance, shooting 20-over and then 17-over across the two days.

Chloe Young rounded out the team, finishing with a score of 191 strokes, which placed her in a tie for 43rd. Ava Fahrenholz placed 47th with a total of 198 strokes. Aliza Koput, participating as an individual, scored 212 strokes.

This tournament gives the Titans valuable experience before they wrap up their season on April 26 at the UW-La Crosse Invitational in Onalaska. Insights from coaching experts suggest that competing in diverse settings like this helps players refine their skills and build resilience, crucial for future competitions.

In women’s golf, participation has increased significantly over the years. According to the National Golf Foundation, there were nearly 1.2 million female golfers in the U.S. in 2021, part of a broader trend aimed at promoting the sport among young women.

The journey continues for the Titans as they aim to improve their performance and prepare for upcoming challenges.
