Warner Bros. has scheduled the release of The Flood, a sci-fi thriller directed by Zach Cregger, for August 11, 2028. Cregger, known for his work on Barbarian and the upcoming Resident Evil, is both writing and directing this new project, inspired by his original idea.
On a similar note, the studio has also set a date for the Weapons spinoff titled Gladys, which will hit theaters on September 8, 2028. Although Cregger won’t direct Gladys, he’ll still be involved as a producer and co-writer alongside Zach Shields.
Richard Brener, President of New Line Cinema, praised Cregger, stating, “Zach is the rarest of filmmakers, fluent in every genre he touches.” His talent has allowed him to create films that resonate with audiences.
Cregger’s previous work, Weapons, topped the domestic box office for three weeks, earning an impressive $269 million worldwide. This success has solidified its place among the highest-grossing horror films of 2025.

Cregger began his career as a writer-director with Barbarian, which was made on a $4 million budget and grossed around $45 million globally. His ability to deliver solid returns on investment highlights his talent and the demand for his storytelling.
Looking ahead, Warner Bros. has a full slate of films on the horizon. This includes an Oceans prequel featuring Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper, set for June 25, 2027, with Cooper in the director’s chair. They’ve also announced the release of Final Destination 7 on May 12, 2028, and a new film about Joan of Arc, directed by Baz Luhrmann, scheduled for November 22, 2028.
