University of New Haven Joins Forces with Innovation Leader to Launch National Supply Chain Resiliency Hub in Connecticut

A new partnership is set to strengthen U.S. manufacturing by combining academic expertise with digital innovation. The University of New Haven’s Elevation Center and i5 Services, which operates the CONNEX Marketplace, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to create a national Supply Chain Resiliency Hub.

Located at the University, this Hub aims to help manufacturers find suppliers, assess risks, and develop stronger supply chains. It will utilize CONNEX Marketplace’s extensive supplier databases and the knowledge of University faculty and students.

The Hub will support manufacturers from diverse sectors looking to create local supply chains, reshore production, and enhance overall supply chain resilience. This initiative will provide manufacturers with assessments, sourcing options, risk analysis, and workforce training. In return, University students will gain hands-on experience through real projects and internships, bridging the gap between academia and industry.

“We’re focused on preparing a skilled workforce for the future,” said Dr. Jens Frederiksen, president of the University of New Haven. “This Hub not only benefits our students but also equips manufacturers to tackle real challenges. Partnering with i5 Services brings this vision to life.”

Alan Davis, president of i5 Services, echoed this sentiment. He noted that small and mid-sized manufacturers often struggle to navigate today’s complex global supply chains. “This partnership provides practical solutions by combining technology with academic talent, helping manufacturers discover suppliers and reduce risks,” he explained.

The Hub is set to start operations within two months, with pilot assessments for manufacturers kicking off soon after. A comprehensive launch is planned for month four, promising a full range of services for U.S. manufacturers.

Over the course of the three-year agreement, the University will earn commissions from new customers referred to CONNEX and ongoing consulting projects. Additionally, both institutions aim to pursue research and development opportunities focused on supply chain innovation.

As the manufacturing landscape continues to evolve, initiatives like this are crucial. Recent studies suggest that supply chain disruptions cost U.S. businesses over $200 billion annually. By enhancing resilience through collaboration and technology, this Hub promises to make a significant impact on the industry.
