Super Bowl LIX will take place on Sunday, February 9, 2025. It’s a big day for football fans across the country! Around 203.4 million adults are expected to tune in, with each person spending an average of $91.58 on game day, according to the National Retail Federation.
Throwing a Super Bowl party can add up quickly. The NRF reports that 81% of consumers plan to buy food and drinks for the event.
Chiefs fan Paul-Scott Wheeler estimates he’ll spend around $350 to $400 on drinks and food. Grant Ralston, another Chiefs fan, thinks the total could reach $1,000 when you consider everything. For many, it’s a chance to enjoy food like pork steaks, burgers, and wings while cheering for their team.
This year’s costs for snacks are similar to last year’s prices. A report from Wells Fargo shows that Americans might spend just ten cents less than in 2024. If you’re hosting a group of ten, expect to spend about $139 on food.
Alcohol is crucial for many fans. Jody Klein, also a Chiefs fan, said that every time their team scores, they take a shot. Beer and wine prices rose only slightly, up 2% since last year.
However, if you’re planning to serve more veggies and healthier options, be ready for higher prices. Fresh produce is becoming more expensive, with cherry tomatoes jumping nearly 12%, avocados by 11.5%, and peppers by 7.4%. Although some snack prices have dropped, the rise in vegetable costs can make your grocery bill higher.
Wheeler acknowledges that costs can get out of hand but believes it’s worth it for a lively party. He pointed out that having a celebration at home is still cheaper than going out to a sports bar.
