Situation Overview
There is a steady line of communication with the Directorate of International Cooperation and Planning at the Ministry of Health. This helps to keep everyone updated on health needs.
On January 16, the WHO launched a Health Emergency Appeal, seeking $56.4 million to address urgent health issues over the next six months. This funding is critical for providing support to the people in Syria.
Since the launch, WHO has delivered nearly 33 tons of emergency health supplies to Syria. These supplies offer hope to many, marking a vital step in restoring health services that have suffered due to ongoing crises.
On January 13, the Regional Dialogue Mechanism (RDM) met in Amman, with representatives from the health sector, including WHO. This meeting focused on collaborative efforts to improve health services in the region.
From January 20 to 23, WHO and UNFPA Regional Directors visited Syria to assess the needs and progress firsthand. Around 50 health partners from northern west Syria are actively coordinating with both Damascus and local health groups to ensure effective service delivery.
A new Emergency Humanitarian Waiver was issued by the State Department on January 28, which may help ease some operational restrictions. Meanwhile, OCHA Syria conducted a meeting on January 27 to discuss outstanding issues with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
Attention is being given to the return of residents from camps in northeastern Syria. Recent regulations require that requests for field visits and meetings with officials be made well in advance, ensuring proper planning and coordination.
The UN Country Team is forming thematic clusters focused on sustainable development goals, aiming to support Syria’s transition and recovery efforts.
