President Trump’s job approval rating has reached a new low. A recent NBC News Decision Desk Poll shows that only 37% of adults approve of how he’s doing his job. Even within the Republican Party, approval amongst them rests at 73%, which is a sizable drop.
On a personal level, many Americans are feeling worse off financially. About 40% believe their situation has worsened in the past year, while only 19% say it has improved. Interestingly, Republicans are generally more optimistic than Democrats or independents about their financial circumstances.
Gas prices also remain a significant concern. Approximately two-thirds of Americans report that rising gas prices affect their households, with 29% labeling it a serious issue. The concern seems particularly acute among blue-collar workers and those without college degrees.
When it comes to the Iran conflict, two-thirds of Americans disapprove of Trump’s approach. Approval rates have not noticeably shifted since he announced a ceasefire on April 7. Even among his strongest supporters, a small 13% disapprove of his war handling.
On immigration, while Trump’s approval has dropped recently, there’s been a slight uptick to 44%. An ongoing effort in Congress aims to enforce stricter voter ID laws, which 75% of Americans support. Most of this group believes those IDs should require proof of citizenship.
With upcoming midterm elections, these findings underline the challenging road ahead for Republicans. As voters grapple with inflation and foreign conflicts, their dissatisfaction could significantly affect party dynamics.
