ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The St. Louis Board of Aldermen will meet on Monday to wrap up its current legislative session. Several important issues are still on the table, including a bill that could allow food trucks to operate in more areas, like downtown and Midtown.
This proposal has faced criticism from some local restaurant owners worried about increased competition. City leaders are currently working on revisions to address these concerns before the bill moves forward.
The timing of this meeting is significant, especially as the city nears the one-year anniversary of the damaging tornado that struck on May 16. In response to the disaster, aldermen set up a tornado relief fund to help residents with repairs, relocation, and support for community organizations. The city has dedicated over $43 million for these recovery efforts.
So far this year, the board has introduced more than 170 bills and about 115 of those have been approved. Committees have also conducted over 200 public hearings to gather community input.
This session kicks off at 10 a.m. on Monday. While the board will reconvene on Tuesday, no new bills can be filed until May 1.
