The “Fundamentals of Cable Car Management” course at Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences (FHV) is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in the cable car industry. Developed with help from the Doppelmayr Group, a leader in cable car technology, the course merges academic knowledge with practical skills.
This part-time program lasts nine months. It’s perfect for both newcomers and those looking to enhance their qualifications in the field. To join, students need to have completed vocational training and possess at least a year of hands-on experience.
Recognizing the seasonal demands of the industry, the course features block weeks. These sessions allow for a blend of study and work, making it easier for participants to balance both commitments.
According to recent statistics, the cable car industry is experiencing a resurgence, with a reported 10% increase in installations worldwide in the past year. This trend highlights the growing importance of skilled professionals in the sector.
The speakers for the course are experts from Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria. Their insights bring valuable perspectives, especially on current challenges and innovations in cable car technology.
Classes are structured around four block weeks throughout the year. Participants will earn 18 ECTS credits by the end, which involves a mix of lectures, preparation for exams, and additional coursework. Each ECTS credit corresponds to about 25 hours of work.
The course covers essential topics like:
- Investment strategies for cable car facilities
- Legal and economic regulations affecting operations
- Technical design and management of cable systems
- Energy and environmental considerations for mountain and urban cable cars
In addition to lectures, the program includes interactive elements such as:
- Fireside chats featuring industry leaders sharing their experiences and insights
- Excursions to notable manufacturing sites in Austria and Switzerland
Upon completing all assessments, participants receive a diploma from FHV, valid under the University of Applied Sciences Act (FHG). This recognition makes the course a valuable asset for career development.
