Environment Minister Welcomes UNESCO Delegation: A Call for Collaborative Action on Global Sustainability

DHAKA, April 21, 2026 (BSS) – Today, Bangladesh’s Environment Minister, Abdul Awal Mintu, welcomed a UNESCO delegation led by Dr. Susan Vize at his office. Their discussion focused on ways to protect the environment.

During the meeting, Minister Mintu emphasized the importance of UNESCO’s assistance in implementing stronger environmental measures. He highlighted ongoing government efforts like modernizing waste management, controlling water and air pollution, and safeguarding the Sundarbans, a vital natural area.

Dr. Susan Vize showed interest in supporting initiatives like the Green Campus program and biodiversity conservation, which aim to enhance environmental education in Bangladesh.

The proposed collaboration aligns well with global trends, as numerous countries are increasingly prioritizing sustainable practices. For example, recent studies suggest that nations with strong educational programs on climate change see a higher level of public awareness and action. In Bangladesh, an estimated 75% of citizens are concerned about environmental issues, according to a recent poll by the International Institute for Environment and Development.

Experts are optimistic that the partnership between the government and UNESCO can lead to effective solutions for the pressing environmental challenges facing Bangladesh. In a world where sustainable development is crucial, combining resources and expertise is key to making a real difference.

With ongoing efforts, Bangladesh aims to become a leader in environmental protection, showing that collaboration and education are foundational to progress. This meeting is just one step in building a greener future.
