Earth Day is just around the corner, and this Miami Beach café is brewing more than just coffee. Cortadito Coffee House is mixing great flavors with a mission to help the planet.
Juan Guerrero, a co-owner, shares, “We offer everything from coladitas to empanadas and different sandwiches.” But there’s an exciting twist. They’ve teamed up with “Compost For Life,” a local initiative focused on sustainability.
Francisco Torres, part of the Compost For Life team, explains, “We aim to empower our community to recycle food waste. Each week, we collect scraps like fruits, veggies, and bread from Cortadito, putting them into pink containers.” These scraps then transform into rich soil within about 120 days. “You can either help fix the problem or contribute to it,” he adds.
This partnership is a great example of how small actions add up to big changes. As they celebrate Earth Month, both Cortadito and Compost For Life demonstrate that delicious food and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.
Recent studies show that about 30-40% of food waste in the U.S. goes to landfills, which is a significant concern for our environment. Composting is one of the effective ways to reduce this waste.
