Higganum/Haddam VFW POST 10690: Days of Service Food Drive
From May 1 to May 15, 2026, the Higganum/Haddam VFW POST 10690 will host a food drive to support the Haddam Social Services Food Pantry. This event aims to gather essential food items and personal care products to help our local community, especially as school lunch programs wrap up for the summer.
You can drop off donations at these locations:
- Haddam Senior Center
- Jack’s Country Restaurant
- River Valley Provisions
- Town and Country Nurseries
- United Congregational Church of Haddam and Higganum
Why It Matters
Food drives are crucial. They bridge the gap when families face increased challenges during the summer months. According to recent statistics, food insecurity affects nearly 1 in 5 families in the U.S., highlighting the need for community support.
What’s Needed
The pantry is looking for non-perishable food items, including:
- Shelf-stable milk
- Beef or chicken broth
- Various cereals (except Cheerios)
- Cereal bars
- Jams and jellies
- Peanut butter
- Maple syrup
- Pancake or waffle mix
- Pasta and rice dishes
- Canned fruits and vegetables
- Snacks like Goldfish and pudding cups
- Personal care items, including hygiene products
Monetary donations are also welcome and can be sent or dropped off at the Haddam Social Services, located at 11 Jail Hill Road.
Community Impact
Every contribution helps families in need. In 2022, the Haddam Social Services Food Pantry served over 300 families. Social media has shown growing support for such initiatives, with many locals sharing their donations online.
Together, we can make a difference. Join us in supporting our community and spreading kindness.
