The Taste of Vienna festival is back this weekend, bringing together local restaurants and supporting the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department (VFD). This 13th annual event will be held on Saturday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the VFD parking lot on Center Street South.
Last year, around 8,000 visitors attended, according to Lauren Stancampiano, who helps organize the festival. After a two-year pause during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s a great time for the community to reconnect. “We want people to break free from their homes after winter,” Stancampiano explained.
This year, the weather forecast predicts rain, but that won’t dampen spirits as the festival goes on rain or shine. “We broke even the first year, and now we keep growing!” she added. Proceeds go to the VFD for equipment upkeep and the purchase of new vehicles, which can cost between $1.2 and $1.4 million and take about three years to produce.
In an effort to engage attendees, chefs will present tasting options so participants can sample a bit of everything. Stancampiano noted, “We fundraise to make these purchases possible. It’s a win-win for everyone involved!”
This year, 31 food stalls and 10 food trucks will be on site, along with a beer and wine tent. Volunteers from the Vienna Business Association will serve drinks, ensuring a lively atmosphere. “Every food vendor spot is officially sold out! We can’t wait to showcase what Vienna offers,” said Lydia Russo, a VFD volunteer and nonprofit founder.
In addition to delicious food, festival-goers can enjoy live music and the thrilling OMG Chocolate Cake-Eating Contest, hosted by Carnegie Diner. Contestants will race to finish a slice of a 24-layer chocolate cake for a chance to win $500, a T-shirt, and a $1,000 gift card.
Live performances include:
- 11 a.m.: Five Leaf Clovers
- 12:45 p.m.: Surfabilly Vibe
- 3:05 p.m.: (After)Math
- 4:50 p.m.: Orbiting Zero
- 6 p.m.: The Coozies
Russo expressed excitement, saying, “It’s inspiring to see the community come together for this. All proceeds directly support our fire department, ensuring we’re ready to serve and protect our neighbors.”
With strong community support, the Taste of Vienna festival promises to be an enjoyable day filled with food, fun, and friendship. For more details, you can check out the event page here.
