Welcome to the Lebanon Valley Soft Pretzel Wars! Five competitors will vie for the title of Best Soft Pretzel in the Valley. We’ll visit each one, tasting their regular soft pretzel and another pretzel-based dish.
This time, we stopped by Foltz’s Pretzels at the Lebanon Farmers Market. This popular spot offers hand-rolled pretzels, including options with toppings, pretzel dogs, and even pretzel nuggets. And don’t forget the lemonade menu!
Foltz’s Pretzels’ hours are limited. They open Thursday to Saturday, so plan your visit wisely.
For our taste test, we chose the classic soft pretzel and the smokey cheesers—pretzel-wrapped cocktail weenies. The classic pretzel was generously salted and had that rich, buttery flavor typical of Amish-style pretzels. It was big, beautifully twisted, and had a satisfying doughy center with a slight crisp on the outside.
On the other hand, the smokey cheesers didn’t quite hit the mark for cheese flavor. However, their crispy bottoms added a nice texture, and the thin pretzel wrapping had that comforting buttery taste.
