Feed My People Food Bank is making changes to its Eau Claire pop-up program to better serve the community. Starting this June, they will reduce the number of monthly distributions from four to two. The new schedule includes distributions at the Hunger Action Center on the second Monday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. and the fourth Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. This will continue through December.
By 2027, their model will shift to an as-needed emergency response system, replacing the regular schedule. Executive Director Padraig Gallagher emphasized that these changes will help them focus on their core mission. The food bank currently supports over 250 programs across Eau Claire and the surrounding areas.
Gallagher noted, “This new approach will enhance our ability to meet needs as they arise.” The flexibility allows them to resume pop-up distributions if that’s the best way to reach those in need.
This strategic shift comes amid rising food insecurity in various communities. Recent studies show that over 10% of households in Wisconsin struggle to access sufficient food, an issue heightened by the pandemic and economic fluctuations. Community organizations like Feed My People are vital in addressing this problem and adapting to the changing needs of their residents.
