Tennessee women’s basketball head coach Kim Caldwell recently announced the hiring of Brandon Miller as the new director of video and strategy for the program. Miller, a seasoned professional from NC State, takes over from Josh Theis, who has moved on to an assistant coaching role after five years with the Lady Vols.
Caldwell expressed her enthusiasm about this addition, noting Miller’s impressive background. He was an integral part of the Wolfpack’s coaching staff under Wes Moore, where he not only contributed to the team’s journey to the Final Four but also helped secure eight NCAA tournament appearances. Under his influence, NC State claimed three regular-season ACC titles and three league tournament championships in just a single season.
Before his time at NC State, Miller honed his skills at Boston College as a video production analyst. He previously worked as the director of basketball operations at North Texas, and served stints as a video coordinator at both Clemson and Louisville. At Louisville, he played a part in their run to the Final Four during the 2008-09 season.
Miller’s educational background is strong, holding a degree in business administration and sport management from High Point University. He also earned a master’s in sport management from the University of Florida, where he worked with the women’s basketball team.
This strategic hiring reflects Caldwell’s dedication to building a competitive program and leveraging expert insights to enhance team performance. As the landscape of women’s basketball continues to evolve, having experienced staff like Miller can make a significant difference in training and strategy.
Recent trends show an increasing investment in women’s sports, both at the collegiate and professional levels. According to a 2023 NCAA report, female participation in college athletics has surged by nearly 40% over the last decade. This growth not only elevates the game but also influences recruitment and coaching decisions, making it critical for programs to adapt and innovate.
As the Lady Vols prepare for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on how Miller’s expertise influences their strategy and performance on the court.
