Lady Vols Triumph Over Alabama in Key Series Win
The eighth-ranked Lady Vols celebrated a strong 4-1 victory against No. 3 Alabama at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. This win clinched a vital conference series, showcasing Tennessee’s resilience after a tough loss earlier in the weekend.
With this win, Tennessee improved its record to 40-8 and 14-7 in the SEC, marking the 23rd time under head coach Karen Weekly that the program has reached 40 wins. Notably, they are also the first team to defeat Alabama in back-to-back games this season, handing the Crimson Tide their first series loss in the SEC.
Sophomore Erin Nuwer started the game strong, pitching two scoreless innings with just one hit allowed. Senior Karlyn Pickens took over and dominated the mound, striking out 11 batters while allowing only one run from three hits in five innings. This performance improved her record to 12-5 for the season.
The game truly turned in the fourth inning when Tennessee scored three runs. Ella Dodge reached base on an error, followed by Emma Clarke’s double that sent Dodge home. Freshman Taelyn Holley then added to the scoreboard with a single, allowing Clarke to score on a fielding mistake. Alannah Leach finished the inning with a sacrifice fly to bring in another run.
Holley continued her impressive performance in the fifth inning, hitting a single that scored Bella Faw and extended the lead to 4-0. Both Clarke and Holley were standouts in the game with 2-for-3 hitting records and one RBI each.
Alabama tried to rally in the last inning, starting with a home run. They put more pressure on with a hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch, putting a runner in scoring position. However, Pickens struck out the side, sealing the win for Tennessee.
For Alabama, Jocelyn Briski was on the mound but took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits over five innings. Kaitlyn Pallozzi pitched a scoreless sixth inning in relief.
As the season progresses, Tennessee will head on the road to finish against Missouri, a challenging matchup ahead for the Lady Vols.
The victory not only boosts confidence but also highlights Tennessee’s potential to make a deep run this season. Fans are optimistic, following the team’s trajectory, especially considering how key players have stepped up in crucial moments.
