PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – On Tuesday, the HCU baseball team turned things around with a convincing 12-2 victory over the Prairie View A&M Panthers. This win snapped a tough four-game losing streak for the Huskies.
HCU (19-24) fell behind early when Ryland Duson hit a two-run home run in the first inning. But the Huskies bounced back in the third. Jeremy Rader started with a double, and Luke Bard’s walk helped set the stage for Katcher Halligan, who launched a three-run homer to put HCU in the lead, 3-2.
The team extended their lead in the fifth when Bard scored on a passed ball. In the sixth, two singles from Anthony Avalos and Bard allowed Walker Bazile to cross home plate, making it 5-2. The momentum continued as Nico DeFazio walked and scored on a double by Preston Curtis. Coby Hatcher’s groundout made it 7-2, and soon after, Bazile hit a solo home run to widen the gap to 8-2.
HCU added more runs with a wild pitch in the eighth, and Avalos knocked in another run before Bard capped the game with a two-run home run. He had an impressive outing, finishing 4-for-4, his first home run of the season, with four runs and three RBIs. Halligan also shined with two hits, three RBIs, and a home run. Avalos contributed two hits as well.
