New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy recently celebrated a big win. They accomplished the first-ever dual launch of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Short Range (NASM-SR). This milestone event took place off the coast of the Bay of Bengal in Odisha, marking an important step for India’s naval capabilities.

During this test, both missiles were launched in quick succession from the same helicopter. It’s the first salvo launch of this type of advanced missile system in India, showcasing significant progress in military technology.

Just the day before, DRDO and the Indian Navy completed rigorous testing for a new frontline warship. This effort was spearheaded by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) and the Navy’s Warship Design Bureau. They focused on hydrodynamic performance, which is crucial for ship design. Their work relied on advanced simulations and real-world experiments, aligning with top international standards.

The DRDO shared this achievement on social media, emphasizing their dedication to enhancing India’s naval technology. The project involved extensive evaluation of several performance factors, such as resistance and speed, to ensure the upcoming warships meet high operational standards.

According to a recent report, the country’s defense budgets have grown significantly in the last decade, aiming to boost both indigenous production and technological advancements. In addition to missile systems, DRDO has also unveiled new armored platforms designed for the armed forces. These platforms feature a 30 mm crewless turret and are designed to address emerging military needs. With 65% of these platforms built from local resources, DRDO plans to increase this to 90%. This commitment to indigenous development reflects a strategic shift towards enhancing local manufacturing capabilities in defense.
