Concordia University Irvine Athletics: Thrilling Record-Breaking Day for Track & Field!

IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine track and field team made a strong impression at the Steve Scott Invitational, showcasing impressive performances and breaking school records.

Star of the day was Julia Pisenti, who shined in the women’s javelin. Her throw of 45.28 meters not only secured first place but also set a new school record. This young athlete is clearly raising her game in an event she enjoys.

On the men’s side, Max Castin soared to a new school record in the high jump. He cleared 2.04 meters, earning a third-place finish and demonstrating his ability to lead in field events.

In distance races, Spencer Handorf finished strong in the men’s 1500 meters, placing fifth with a time of 4:01.07. The women’s team also impressed, with Emma Timmermans finishing seventh in the same event at 4:42.67. Olivia Reed added to the success by securing a Top 10 spot in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.13.

Field athlete Olivia Holmquist cleared 1.69 meters in the women’s high jump, earning a seventh-place finish and contributing to the team’s ongoing strength.

This year’s event highlights a growing trend in collegiate athletics, where young athletes consistently break records. In 2021, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) reported that more than 60% of schools saw increased performance in track and field events, signaling a competitive shift.

As the weekend continues, Concordia will keep the momentum going. While some athletes will compete at the Steve Scott Invitational, others are gearing up for the Oxy Invitational, showcasing the depth and talent of the Eagles.

With the bar set high, fans and fellow students are excited to see what these talented athletes will accomplish next!
