Breaking News: Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods Depart WWE as Latest Wave of Releases Hits

The New Day, one of WWE’s most beloved tag teams, is parting ways with the company. Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston have confirmed their exit, as reported by Fightful Select and Bodyslam.net. Their names have already been moved to the alumni section of the WWE website.

This change comes amid a wave of cutbacks following WrestleMania. Kingston and Woods decided to leave after contract restructuring proposals did not meet their expectations. Bryan Alvarez from “The Wrestling Observer” noted they felt the offers from TKO, WWE’s parent company, were unsatisfactory.

The New Day first burst onto the scene in 2014, spreading their message of “the power of positivity.” Over the years, they captured 13 tag team championships, making their mark with the longest title reign in WWE history at 438 days. They’ve had iconic rivalries, including one with The Usos and even inspired a cereal brand based on their gimmick. Their last tag team championship win was at WrestleMania 41.

Kofi Kingston, now 44, has had a remarkable journey with WWE. He famously won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35, a moment hailed as “KofiMania,” marking a significant milestone in his 18-year career with the company. In addition to his world title, he’s been a four-time Intercontinental champion and a 16-time tag champion.

Xavier Woods, aged 39, has been sidelined due to injury since January. He made waves in 2021 by winning the King of the Ring title. Woods joined WWE in 2010 and has been an integral part of The New Day’s success.

Recently, the group attempted a new direction with a heel turn that didn’t quite resonate with fans. Kingston was last seen in action on April 27, teaming up with Grayson Waller.

There’s already buzz about where Kingston and Woods might land next. Some stars from AEW have hinted at their potential arrival there, with Cash Wheeler and MJF referencing The New Day’s famous catchphrase on social media. Fans are eager for a showdown between The New Day and AEW’s Young Bucks, a match many have dreamt of for years. However, WWE contracts often include a 90-day non-compete clause, meaning we may have to wait a bit before seeing them in action again.

The recent changes also saw other wrestlers, including JC Mateo and Tonga Loa, being released. These cuts are part of a broader trend in wrestling, often seen as companies adjust to shifting market dynamics and fan interests.

As the wrestling world evolves, fans can look forward to new storylines and potential matchups that could reshape the industry. The New Day’s future remains bright, whether in WWE, AEW, or elsewhere.
