Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat recently spoke about the importance of a united India during challenging global times. He believes a strong India can be the foundation for the world, but this requires including all communities, especially tribal populations, in the development process.
Bhagwat emphasized that tribal communities have preserved much of India’s rich culture. He noted, “Their spirit is key to our society’s enduring strength.” Over the years, tribes have faced numerous challenges, including outside invasions that sought to disrupt this cultural heritage. Yet, despite these trials, the essence of India’s identity remains tied to these communities.
At the Karmayogi Ekal Shikshak Mela, an event guided by Union minister Nitin Gadkari, Bhagwat shared that committing to the education and development of marginalized groups can equip India to navigate the current global instability. He stated, “Our duty is to serve, not as a favor but as a contribution to humanity.”
Bhagwat also highlighted a crucial point: “Urban, educated people have drifted from their roots. The true identity of our nation is tied to our tribal heritage, and that’s where we must focus our efforts.” He urged for a revival of connections to these communities, stressing that their knowledge and identity are invaluable to the country’s progress.
Gadkari echoed these sentiments, emphasizing a shift in political focus—from mere power to genuine development and service. He called for more individuals, or “karmayogis,” who are dedicated to uplifting marginalized groups.
Bringing awareness to these communities can enrich society as a whole. Historical data shows that nations that integrate diverse cultural heritages often find more sustainable paths for growth.
In 2021, a survey found that over 50% of urban Indians recognized the need for tribal education and development, reflecting a growing understanding of the importance of cultural identity. Engaging with tribal communities not only strengthens bonds but also helps preserve the deep-rooted traditions that form the essence of India.
By prioritizing education and integration, we can ensure that the wisdom of these communities continues to guide the nation forward. A united, educated India can indeed become a beacon for the world.
