RB Deuce Jones-Drew Upholds Family Legacy by Committing to UCLA: A New Chapter Begins!

There’s a new Jones-Drew to cheer for at UCLA, and it’s Duece Jones-Drew, the son of NFL star Maurice Jones-Drew. He recently announced his commitment to the Bruins, his father’s former team, where Maurice had a standout career.

Duece feels excited about joining his dream school. “It feels good knowing that I have a spot at my dream school,” he said, reflecting on his long-held aspirations.

While UCLA was a top choice, recruiting was intense. Arizona, with its running backs coach Alonzo Carter, made a strong push but ultimately, the Bruins won. Coach AJ Steward played a significant role in Duece’s decision, even visiting him at home in January. During an Elite Junior Day visit, Duece started leaning back towards UCLA.

“It was the place for me when I talked to Coach Chesney and Coach Steward,” he shared. They made him feel at home and inspired a sense of belonging. “I love what they preach and what they stand for,” he added.

Duece attended the Bruins’ Spring Game at the Rose Bowl, a venue rich in family history. He talked to fellow recruit Rob Larson about their future together as teammates. “We were on the same page about going to UCLA,” he mentioned.

Looking ahead, Duece plans to return to Los Angeles for an official visit in June. He aims to carry on the Jones-Drew legacy while setting out on his path. “Dreams to reality,” he said, committing to his future with the Bruins.

As a three-star recruit, Duece is ranked as the No. 56 running back in the country and the No. 55 recruit in California for the class of 2027, according to Rivals. This continuation of athletic excellence within the Jones-Drew family adds another chapter to their rich history in college football.

Such family legacies highlight the emotional elements of sports recruitment. With many young athletes wanting to follow in their parents’ footsteps, it’s worth noting that Forbes recently reported that family influence plays a significant role in college sports decisions. Families often shape values and aspirations, further emphasizing the significance of family in sports culture.

As the future unfolds for Duece at UCLA, all eyes will be on how this young athlete carves his own path while honoring the legacy of his father.
