Trial of NFL Player Stefon Diggs Begins
In Dedham, Massachusetts, the trial of NFL player Stefon Diggs kicked off with serious allegations. A prosecutor detailed how Diggs’ private chef, Mila Adams, claims he assaulted her in December. Diggs, a four-time Pro Bowler, is facing felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault charges. He has pleaded not guilty.
As the jury was sworn in, Alabama Assistant District Attorney Drew Virtue explained the incident. Adams will testify that Diggs entered her bedroom, slapped her, and then put her in a headlock, making it hard for her to breathe before pushing her onto the bed.
Diggs’ attorney, Andrew Kettlewell, maintained that his client did nothing wrong. He pointed out that no one else witnessed the alleged attack and highlighted the lack of any medical evidence or video. “The assault did not happen,” Kettlewell asserted.
He also mentioned a growing dispute between Adams and Diggs’ team, suggesting that tension escalated when Adams was excluded from a trip to Miami. Kettlewell urged jurors to keep any biases about wealth or fame out of their decision-making.
Adams described a shocking confrontation. After exchanging heated texts earlier, she said Diggs slapped and then choked her, which left her feeling faint. Despite her emotional retelling, the judge instructed the jury to focus strictly on the questions posed.
According to police reports, the argument between Adams and Diggs stemmed from disagreements over unpaid work. Adams claimed the encounter left her breathless and fearful.
Stefon Diggs, who recently signed a three-year, $69 million contract with the New England Patriots, has had a notable career. He was previously drafted by the Minnesota Vikings and also played for the Buffalo Bills before a brief stint with the Houston Texans.
In the most recent season, Diggs achieved over 1,000 receiving yards, marking a successful comeback after an injury. However, he was released from the Patriots earlier this year and has yet to sign with a new team.
