NorthX Climate Tech just announced a significant boost to sustainable tech in British Columbia, with $3 million in funding for four innovative companies. This funding is non-dilutive, meaning companies keep their full equity. To date, NorthX has provided $57.6 million in non-dilutive funding across 89 projects, stimulating $621 million in additional investment.
Tim Hodgson, B.C.’s Minister of Energy, emphasized the importance of clean technology for Canada’s economy. He believes these projects showcase homegrown solutions that enhance efficiency and create jobs while positioning Canada as a leader in clean energy.
B.C. is home to many high-emission industries. Adrian Dix, Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions, noted that decreasing emissions doesn’t compromise economic growth. The funding supports companies like ShiftX Technologies, Kinitics, CURA, and Hydron Energy, each tackling different aspects of decarbonization.

ShiftX Technologies is working on a new hydrogen production system that uses less energy and cost, especially useful in industrial settings. Their innovative reactor could shake up traditional production methods.
Kinitics Automation is replacing methane-venting devices in natural gas operations with electric actuators. This can eliminate methane leaks, improving efficiency. More than 261,000 of these devices in Canada need replacing by 2030, highlighting a significant market opportunity.
CURA aims to produce zero-carbon lime at prices that compete with traditional methods. Their process captures CO₂, allowing retrofitting into existing facilities, which makes it easier for the industry to adopt.
Hydron Energy is expanding its renewable natural gas platform to include direct air capture technology. This approach can remove CO₂ more efficiently while also retrieving rare gases.
The push for decarbonization isn’t just about lowering emissions. It’s also crucial for accessing capital and international markets, as demand for low-carbon products rises. Clean technology can improve operations, reduce costs, and streamline production.
