Join the Celebration: Hundreds of Marilyn Monroe Lookalikes Gather in California for Her 100th Birthday Bash and Exclusive Artifact Exhibition in LA!

Some like it hot, and that’s exactly what the California desert offers in springtime!

This May, Southern California is ready to celebrate the iconic Marilyn Monroe on what would have been her 100th birthday.

On Saturday, May 30, Palm Springs will host the Marilyn 100 event at Downtown Park, right next to the famous “Forever Marilyn” statue. Organizers aim to break a Guinness World Record by gathering 500 Marilyn lookalikes. The current record stands at 254, set in Australia in 2020.

The festivities kick off at 3 p.m. and run until 9 p.m., featuring live music, food trucks, DJs, and special performances. To join “The Great Marilyn Record Attempt,” it costs $75 for an “Icon Kit,” which includes her famous white dress, a platinum-blonde wig, and cat-eye sunglasses.

The official record attempt will be held between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., with all proceeds benefiting Palm Springs Pride.

The next day, on May 31, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles will open Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon, an exhibition that runs through February 28, 2027. This exhibit dives into how Marilyn crafted her public image within the classic Hollywood studio system.

It will showcase hundreds of artifacts, including personal letters and artifacts, many of which are on display for the first time. A highlight is an impressive collection of her costumes from movies, like the famous pink dress from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953).

Marilyn Monroe, born Norma Jeane Mortenson in 1926, faced a tough childhood but rose to be one of the most famous faces of the 20th century. Tragically, she passed away in 1962 at just 36 years old, but her legacy endures.

Celebrating Marilyn with a fun-filled gathering in Palm Springs and an insightful exhibition in Los Angeles is a fitting tribute to this storied actress.

In 2023, according to recent statistics from the American Film Institute, Marilyn remains one of the top 12 most recognized actress names in Hollywood history. Despite the years, she continues to captivate audiences and inspire new generations.

As social media buzzes with excitement about these celebrations, it’s clear that the spirit of Marilyn Monroe is alive and well, showcasing her enduring impact on popular culture.
