Veteran wide receiver Jauan Jennings has signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings. The contract starts at $8 million, with potential incentives that could boost it to $13 million, according to league sources. ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the news.
Jennings, turning 29 this July, was ranked as the 21st best free agent this offseason by The Athletic. He’s known for being one of the top blocking receivers in the league. Drafted in the seventh round in 2020 from Tennessee, he played his entire career with the San Francisco 49ers.
Last season, Jennings had a career year, catching 55 passes for 643 yards and scoring nine touchdowns. In 2024, he almost hit the 1,000-yard mark, finishing with 77 receptions and 975 yards. Unfortunately, an ejection in Week 18 kept him short of that milestone. In the 2023 Super Bowl, he made big plays, even catching and throwing a touchdown pass in a tough loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
His performance dipped in 2025, however. Even though he played in 15 games, he didn’t reach 100 yards in any of them. Still, he managed to score in five straight games, marking him as a valuable red zone threat with seven touchdowns that year, ranking third in the NFL.
How Jennings Fits with the Vikings
Jennings joins the Vikings to enhance their receiver depth. While they have standout player Justin Jefferson and strong No. 2 Jordan Addison, the team needed more experience behind them. Tai Felton, a promising rookie, only had three catches last season. Jennings brings a veteran presence and a proven record in a similar system.
What sets Jennings apart is his ability to block. Jefferson and Addison may be skilled at gaining separation, but they lack the size to block effectively. At 6-foot-3 and 212 pounds, Jennings can handle blocking duties, making him ideal for run-heavy plays.
The Vikings have lacked a versatile receiver like Jennings in recent seasons. Although K.J. Osborn and Trent Sherfield filled some roles, Jennings brings a gritty, physical style that could complement their offensive strategy.
