Join the Biggest One-Day Food Drive in the Nation: Your Guide to Getting Involved!

DAYTON, Ohio – This Saturday marks the country’s largest one-day food drive, and getting involved is as simple as checking your mailbox.

The Dayton Food Bank works tirelessly to address food insecurity in our communities. Their major initiative, “Stamp Out Hunger,” is an opportunity for everyone to support their efforts. Local mail carriers play a crucial role in this nationwide drive.

If you’re in the Dayton area, consider leaving a bag of non-perishable food items near your mailbox before delivery time on Saturday. The mail carriers will collect your donations and deliver them to the food bank.

Last year, the Dayton Food Bank gathered over 66,000 pounds of food through this initiative. Amber Wright, the Food Bank’s Marketing and Advocacy Manager, emphasized the importance of this food drive. “This campaign is essential for us,” she said, noting that it helps stock their shelves just as summer begins. Many children depend on school lunches during the academic year, and as summer approaches, this food becomes even more critical.

The food bank is looking for easy-to-grab items for kids, such as macaroni and cheese, juice boxes, granola bars, cereal, dry milk, and peanut butter and jelly. Please remember to use bags with handles and avoid glass packaging.

Wright encourages the community to support their local mail carriers, who work hard during this campaign. “If you see your mail carrier, give them a shout-out for their dedication,” she said.

Participating in “Stamp Out Hunger” is a great way to help your community while making your day a little brighter. Let’s work together to tackle food insecurity in Dayton!
