The 34th annual “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive is happening on Saturday, May 9, 2026. This is a great way for residents in western North Carolina to help local families in need, all from the comfort of their homes.
Led by the National Association of Letter Carriers, this food drive is the largest one-day initiative of its kind in the U.S. In our area, donations will go to MANNA FoodBank. This nonprofit has been supporting families in the region since 1983.
Micah Chrisman from MANNA FoodBank shared, “Every bag left by a mailbox this Saturday shows that our community cares. It helps keep our local food pantries stocked.” His message highlights how simple actions can make a big difference in the fight against hunger.
If you received a blue postcard in the mail, join in by filling a sturdy bag with nonperishable food and placing it next to your mailbox before the mail arrives. Letter carriers will pick up these donations and take them to local post offices, where volunteers will sort the food for distribution.
For any questions, you can speak with your letter carrier, visit your local post office, or check out more details at nalc.org/food.
Food insecurity affects millions. According to Feeding America, more than 38 million people in the U.S. face hunger. Efforts like “Stamp Out Hunger” not only provide immediate relief but also raise awareness about the ongoing challenges many families face.
Experts agree that community involvement in food drives strengthens social ties and encourages a culture of giving. Research shows that when people volunteer or donate, it fosters a sense of belonging and responsibility toward one another.
So, gather some nonperishables and show your support this May. Every little bit helps ensure that families in western North Carolina don’t go hungry.
