Susquehanna University recently honored three outstanding faculty members during its 168th Commencement.
John Bodinger de Uriarte received the John C. Horn Award for Distinguished Scholarship and Creative Activity. He has been with Susquehanna since 2003, contributing significantly to anthropology and interdisciplinary studies. Bodinger de Uriarte has published extensively and played a key role in advancing study-abroad programs, helping students explore cultures in places like Iceland and the Galápagos. His work focuses on museums and tourism, particularly in Native American and Icelandic contexts. His achievements include a Fulbright Scholar Award in 2017, allowing him to teach in Iceland.
Anjee Gorkhali, an associate professor in finance and analytics, was recognized with the Donald D. Housley Teaching Award. Since joining in 2019, she has been praised for her engaging teaching style and dedication to student success. Gorkhali also co-founded the Bridge to the Boardroom program to help first-generation college students transition smoothly into university life. Students admire her approach, highlighting her balance of structure and enjoyment in learning.
Erin Smith earned the Lawrence A. Lemons Distinguished Academic Advising Award. Joining the psychology department in 2017, she is known for her exceptional mentorship, encouraging students to envision their potential. Smith collaborates with community partners to offer meaningful practicum experiences, connecting classroom theory with practical application. She holds multiple degrees, including from Susquehanna itself.
