Experience Stunning Earth Views: Timelapse Video of Artemis 2 from 12,000 Captured Images

A recent timelapse video captures incredible views of Earth from the Artemis 2 mission. During this historic trip, four astronauts experienced breathtaking sights of our planet as they flew around the moon.

The crew shared about 12,000 pictures from their journey, highlighting satellites, auroras, and stunning views of Earth in both daylight and night. The timelapse begins with Earth gradually appearing before sliding back into darkness from their perspective.

Artemis 2 launched on April 1 and returned April 10. It was a groundbreaking mission, marking the first time astronauts ventured beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in 1972. The crew included NASA’s Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency.

During their flight, the astronauts focused a lot on Earth. A standout photo they took was of an “Earthset,” similar to the famous “Earthrise” capture from Apollo 8 back in 1968. This photo, taken on the sixth day of their journey, showed a thin crescent of Earth, with bright clouds over Australia.

Experts note that missions like Artemis 2 ignite public interest in space exploration. According to a recent NASA survey, nearly 70% of Americans today are excited about returning to the moon. The Artemis program aims to get astronauts back on the lunar surface within the next few years.

Next on the agenda is Artemis 3, planned for 2027, which will test docking operations in low Earth orbit. This mission is crucial as it prepares astronauts for even more ambitious goals, including possible missions to Mars in the future. As we look back at moments like the Apollo missions, it’s clear that space exploration has the power to unite people and inspire future generations.
