The Pro Late Models have truly made a name for themselves at New Smyrna Speedway. Once just an undercard, they now steal the spotlight at the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. This division has delivered thrilling races, fierce championship battles, and showcased some impressive young talent.
Looking back, the early years of the Pro Late Model division were filled with curiosity. Many wondered what to expect from this new addition during Speedweeks. Initially seen as a novelty, it quickly became clear that these drivers could put on an exciting show.
Established in 2007, the Pro Late Models were initially viewed as an extra feature for Florida racing fans. However, they reignited interest in Speedweeks, bringing back fans who had drifted away from Super Late Model racing.
By their third season, champions emerged from different states, showcasing the division’s growing popularity. In 2011, the Limited Late Model class merged with the Pro Late Models, solidifying their place in the racing landscape.
In 2013, the Pro Late Models got their own signature event, the 100-lap Hart to Heart 100. This year marks its 13th running, and, much like the championship fight, it has seen 12 different winners over the years.
Last year, around 25 drivers competed in the Pro Late Model division during Speedweeks. It has been a launching pad for many young talents. Notable names like Stephen Nasse, Landon Cassill, Zane Smith, and Harrison Burton began their racing journeys here on the iconic New Smyrna high-banks.
This year, the Pro Late Models will race on six out of the nine nights, more than any other division. With 26 pre-registered drivers from 13 states and two Canadian provinces, it promises to be an exciting week.
If you can’t make it to New Smyrna Beach, FL, you can catch all nine nights of racing action live on FloRacing.
