Food Drive Brings Hope to Biloxi Community
In Biloxi, Mississippi, the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive recently made a big impact. This event, held every May since 1993, is the largest one-day food drive in the U.S. and aims to fight food insecurity.
This past weekend, generous locals donated about 3,000 pounds of non-perishable food. Back Bay Mission, a nonprofit organization in the area, picked up these donations on Monday. Just a month earlier, they were asking for help, but now they’re well-stocked.
Dhiana Skrmetti, the development director at Back Bay Mission, expressed her gratitude: “Every donation matters. Receiving this amount is phenomenal for us.” Her words highlight the importance of community support in these challenging times.
Kavaji Beverly, a letter carrier in Biloxi, echoed this sentiment. He noted how the current economic situation has left many struggling with food insecurity. “It’s great that people can access food. Hopefully, this inspires others to give again next year,” he said.
Thanks to this recent donation, Back Bay Mission estimates that the food will last the community for about two weeks. This relief is crucial, especially when many families face difficult financial situations.
