Vallejo and Vacaville have some exciting events coming up, especially for those connected to the veteran community. The Disabled American Veterans Ozie Boler Chapter 21 invites all high school seniors in Vallejo to participate in an essay contest. Participants must write a 500-word essay about what a Disabled American Veteran means to them. Prizes for the top essays include $2000, $1000, and $500. Make sure your entries are postmarked by March 31 to the DAV Chapter 21 Scholarship Committee at 420 Admiral Callaghan Lane, Vallejo, CA 94591. High School Seniors in Vallejo are invited to write essays for the Disabled American Veterans scholarship contest.

On February 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Rebuilding Together Solano County will distribute Disaster Safe at Home Kits to veterans and servicemembers at the Vacaville Veterans Building. Each kit, worth $175, includes essential items like a First Aid Kit, hand-crank radio, flashlight, emergency blanket, and more. They’ll also hold additional distributions on February 11, March 11, and April 8 at the Mare Island Veterans Affairs Clinic in Vallejo.

Don’t miss the Super Bowl Watch Party at the Vallejo Veterans Memorial Building on February 9 at 3 p.m. Event Manager Dwight Richardson encourages everyone to join in for delicious barbecues. To support the building’s upkeep, they also host weekly events like Hamburger Thursdays at 6 p.m., Karaoke Fridays at 6 p.m., and Taco Tuesdays at 4 p.m.
