However, the role of electric cooking, or e-Cooking, is not fully explored in this plan, which limits its potential.
For e-Cooking to become practical, we need a strong implementation framework. This means we must look beyond general goals and focus on real-life challenges, such as affordability, reliable electricity, and effective supply chains. It’s also crucial to consider gender dynamics to ensure everyone can access these solutions.
Effective partnerships between the public and private sectors are vital. The public sector should create a supportive environment with clear rules and incentives. In contrast, the private sector can use these conditions to build stability, access markets, and innovate with financing models.
Experts emphasize the significance of this coordination. Dr. Adeola Ogunlaja, an energy policy specialist, notes, “Collaboration between sectors can drive change and lead to sustainable solutions.” Data shows that 70% of households in Nigeria rely on traditional cooking methods, underscoring the urgent need for clean cooking solutions.
The African Group of Negotiators Experts Support (AGNES), in partnership with the National Council on Climate Change and the Federal Ministries of Environment and Power, is working on a project to enhance the e-Cooking element in Nigeria’s clean cooking plan. This initiative, supported by the Climate and Clean Air Coalition, aims to develop practical strategies and funding proposals to make e-Cooking a reality.
As clean cooking evolves in Nigeria, the need for coordinated efforts and inclusive strategies has never been more crucial. By addressing these challenges head-on, we can pave the way for a cleaner, healthier future for all.
