Kentucky residents now have a great new resource for career and education questions. A website called Futuriti.org was recently launched. This platform provides valuable, state-specific information on various career paths and educational opportunities in Kentucky.
During a virtual event at the Capitol Rotunda, leaders from the Commonwealth Education Continuum introduced the site. Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman, who is part of the Continuum, explained that while there are many online resources available, there hasn’t been a way to connect all the information. “This website bridges gaps and offers access to opportunities for all Kentuckians,” she said.
The idea for Futuriti began in 2021, with a focus on helping middle and high school students, as well as adult learners. The goal was to create a resource that connects people with information about education options, career pathways, and financial aid.
Aaron Thompson, President of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, emphasized that the site aims to help meet the goal of having 60% of Kentuckians with a postsecondary credential by 2030. “There’s nothing like Futuriti in other states, and I’m excited that we have this tool available,” he added.
Futuriti features an interactive section called Future Finder. Here, users can explore:
- Job descriptions and salaries for over 700 careers
- Information about in-demand jobs
- Cost, completion rates, and debt stats for colleges and technical schools
- Majors available at Kentucky’s public and private universities
- Career pathways offered at high schools and technical centers
The site was developed with input from students, educators, and workforce professionals to make it user-friendly and comprehensive. According to Robbie Fletcher, Commissioner of Education, the website not only helps students see available career options but also sparks their imagination about future possibilities. Setting career goals early can inspire students to excel in their studies.
Futuriti organizes information into three main sections, guiding users through choosing a career, continuing education, and starting a career. The education section provides tips on financial aid and scholarships, along with links to other helpful resources. Additionally, it offers support for educators, parents, and counselors.
Users can also explore labor market data to understand high-demand jobs in their areas. The KYSTATS database is a resource for seeing how workforce needs vary across different regions.
Futuriti received initial marketing support from a $13,000 grant from the NASH Catalyst Fund. This fund promotes educational opportunities through collaborative initiatives from pre-K to postsecondary education.
Amanda Ellis from the CPE highlighted that Futuriti is more than just a campaign to encourage higher education. It’s a chance to change the culture surrounding education and careers in Kentucky, aiming to create a well-educated workforce that meets or exceeds national averages.
This innovative platform is set to make a significant impact on the future of education and career pathways for Kentuckians.
