Notably, crude oil exports fell 95% from previous years, decreasing to only 8.4 million barrels.
Following the talks, China’s foreign ministry revealed that both leaders had forged a “series of new consensus.” They aim to create a “constructive, strategic stability” in their bilateral relationship for the next three years and beyond. Regarding the Iran war, China is pushing for the reopening of shipping lanes and is advocating for a lasting ceasefire in the Middle East.
As their two-day summit wraps up, Trump and Xi’s discussions have included not only oil deals but also U.S. market access and business opportunities. However, a cautionary note was issued about the potential fallout from mishandling Taiwan relations.
This meeting is noteworthy as it marks the first visit of a sitting U.S. president to China in almost nine years. The two leaders are expected to conclude their summit with a tea and lunch session before the U.S. delegation heads back to Washington.
