MANSFIELD — Friendly House is taking part in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) this year. This is a great chance for families to get free meals for kids during the summer.
Eligible children can receive free meals if they meet the income guidelines for reduced-price lunches in the National School Lunch Program. A child from a household that gets SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), FDPIR (Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations), or TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) can also get free meals automatically.
It’s important to note that the program welcomes all children, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. There’s a strong focus on inclusivity and no discrimination during meal service.
Meals will be available from June 8 to August 7, Monday through Friday. Lunch is served at noon, followed by a snack at 3:15 PM each day.
According to recent surveys, access to summer food programs is crucial. The Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) reports that participation in these programs can help reduce food insecurity among children. With one in seven kids experiencing hunger during the summer months, programs like SFSP play a vital role in providing nutritious meals.
To register, parents can visit Friendly House’s website. This service directly supports local families and helps ensure kids stay healthy and energized during the summer break.
